M8D was a prototype created by McLaren in 1970 to participate in the Can-Am as an evolution of M8 with a lower spoiler and wider. The chassis was an aluminum mococasco fiberglass bodywork. The engine was a Chevrolet prepared by George Lucas injection Bolthoff. It tartaba a 7.6-liter V8 and 650 hp. The transmission power was a Hewland LG500 4 speed.
The wheels had 15 inches tall and 11 wide at the front and 16 in the rear
The measures were: 1575 mm width of the front, 1486 mm rear width, width dtotal of length 1930 mm and 4166 mm. The weight was 634 Kg
Mosport in Canada was the first race of the series Ca-Am Dan Gurney 1970 and was called to replace Bruce McLaren who had died testing the M8D. Dan Gurney, who had never driven the car, won the race with the car number 48 after a tight race against Jackie Oliver
