It was one of the most successful racing cars in history and won several races around the world:
- World Championship of Sport-Prototypes in 1985 and 1986
- 24h of Le Mans in 1986, 1987 and 1994
- UEFA IMSA GTP in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
- 24h of Daytona in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991
- 12h of Sebring in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
The rules of the IMSA "GTP" require some modifications in respect of Porsches designed for Group C. The front axle 12 centimeters was shifted forward, so that the driver's feet were behind the wheel. The 6-cylinder boxer engine had a displacement of 3.2 liters, refigeracion air, a single turbo, 2 valves per cylinder and a camshaft.
This car, driven by Bobby Rahal, Jochen Mass and Bruce Leven, won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1987.
