The Porsche 962 was a sport-prototype created to replace the already successful Porsche 956 in order to allow its presence in the American IMSA and WSC competitions Group C.
It was one of the most successful race cars and won several championships around the world:
- World Championship Sport-Prototypes in 1985 and 1986
- 24h of Le Mans in 1986, 1987 and 1994
- IMSA GTP Championship in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
- Daytona 24h in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991
- 12h of Sebring in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
The 962C first appeared in Le Mans in 1985. The engine was a boxer, 6 cylinders, two turbos, liquid cooled, 4 valves per cylinder and double overhead camshafts.
In the 3 factory cars participating in the 24 Hours in 1988, the engine had increased to 3 liters. Even the tail had been updated. In those years the cars had carrocerias long queue to get the least possible resistance in the line of Les Hunaudières.
During qualifying, the 962C reached a top speed of 391 kilometers per hour.
This ran at Le Mans in 1990 in blue and white with Mizuno sponsored car. The car was driven by Luis Krages, Stanley Dickens and bob wollek
As usual in these models comes equipped with chassis EVO-6 engine in the new MX16 In-Line position and a ratio of 9/28 teeth, all together with other high quality parts.
