In 1998, on Slot.it I designed the line of high performance Pro Axle parts for Slot. They wanted to make the best pieces available and they started a revolution.
Slot.it quickly became the reference company in quality and service
Now, 20 years later, they have redesigned the Slot.it crowns to make them even better.
Slot it poresenta the crowns M (M of Modular): the evolution of the crown of Slot.
In a traditional Slot.it crown the motor shaft is rotating inside a slot that keeps the shaft in the right place, and this precise alignment keeps the pinion teeth attached to the crown.
Poor maintenance or excessive stresses can wear the outer wall, leading eventually to the destruction of the crown. Why? Especially because the shaft and the gear, on the side opposite the gears, rotate against each other in two opposite directions. If the pressure between the two parts breaks the oil film, the crown starts to wear out, despite using the harder bronze and chemically hardened aluminum with Teflon coating.
This is what happens The zones in red, when the oil film breaks, are in contact with each other and lap after lap start to slow down the car.
A characteristic noise is heard and you can see bronze or aluminum shavings. The process is irreversible
The new M crowns are composed of three basic pieces:
1. The gear: the gears are exactly the same as those that use the current slot it crowns with a new insert
2. The locking ring: this is the part that holds the shaft in place.
Two types have been manufactured: one for the pinion of 5.5 mm and one for pinion of 6 mm.
3. The steel washers: they work like a bearing, rotating independently of each other and the rest of the pieces on a layer of oil.
As a result we get less friction, less wear, more performance and more gear ratios of the same crown
Its use is easy, but require proper assembly.
While the original Slot.it crowns are literally put and run, the new M-crowns require some attention.
Make sure of the following:
1. There must be TWO washers between the shaft and the locking ring.
2. The captive screw MUST reach the shaft. In other words, make sure that the set screw is inserted through the hole in the side of the crown.
3. The washer on the gear side is optional.
4. Put a drop of the oil in the two washers
5. Make sure the screw is correctly inserted in the hole of the core.
