The 956 was created by Porsche in 1982 to compete in the new Group C category. It was replaced in 1985 by the similar model 962. It was one of the most successful cars in history, won four races at Le Mans 24h consecutively in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, and the Manufacturers title three times. The car was powered by a 2,650 cc engine. Its monocoque aluminum chassis was new to Porsche. Through this change, the minimum weight of 800 kg was reached. The 34 car was sponsored by the Australian distributor of pneumatic Bob Jane T Marts. He ran the 1984 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans driven by two Australian pilots, Peter Brock and Larry Perkins Engine Rear Wheel Drive.
