Bernard Beguin ran the French Rally Championship at the wheel of the BMW M1 Group 4, prepared by the ORECA team and sponsored by BMW and Motul. The victories were not many, only achieving 3 in 15 rallies due to an excess of weight (the car weighed 1150 kg) and a width 20 cm greater than those of the cars of its rivals. In the world championship, BMW's participation in Group B was reduced to a single race, the Tour de Corsica 1983, in which Beguin did not finish due to an engine problem.
