In 2000, Audi R8 LMP launched a master Destined car endurance racing for several years.
For the debut in Le Mans, Joest Racing started working in the LMP 900 P.
competitors were mainly Cadillac, Panoz Motorsports and Pescarolo Sport, as well as some other private LMP.

Jackie Ickx gave the start of the race waving the French flag, and as expected, the performance of the Audi R8 LMP could not be matched. However, at the end of the first hour, for eight laps the race was led by the Panoz LMP-1. Finally, the crossed checkered flag number 8 driven by Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen and Emanuele Pirro, followed by car No.9 (Aiello, McNish, Ortelli) and No.7 (Alboreto, Abt, Capello) second and respectivemente third place
