The R18 e-tron quattro is a hybrid version of the R18 Ultra. It is named "Hybrid e-tron technology" Audi, which consists of a front mounted electric motor that works synchronized with the Audi all-wheel drive system. A diesel engine provides power to the rear axle in both the Audi e-tron and the sister brother model Audi R18 Ultra. The energy storage unit for the electric motor is a steering wheel system designed by Williams Hybrid Power. The Audi R18 e-tron belongs to the category of 2 megajoules (2 mJ). A four-wheel drive system, according to the Le Mans regulation, can only be used on hybrid cars if the electric motor is mounted on the opposite axle of the traditional engine. In addition, electric traction is only available at speeds above 120 km / h (75 mph), to limit the traction advantage of a 4WD system at low speed. The management of the electric motor and the gear is completely automatic.

In its Audi R18 e-tron Slot.it has created a 4WD system that is truly unique and innovative. Traditional slot cars with four-wheel drive, having no differences, are invariably short of maximum speed and difficult to drive. In the Slot.it system, a toothed belt provides power to the front axle through two micro pulleys that are coupled to the left wheels. Here, the work of two one-way bearings (unidirectional bearings), mounted between the front wheels and the front axle, makes possible the transmission only of positive torque, eliminating any braking torque, so the model, while retains the 4WD real traction, keeps its full speed on the straights and is handled as it should when turning.
